Women’s Squad
The Women's Captain for the 2009/10
season is Keren Ward
The City of Oxford Rowing Club is stronger than ever with 4 squads of women training,
improving and racing. In recent years we have won medals at Women’s Henley, Ghent International Regatta and the National
Championships of Great Britain as well as loads of pots at domestic regional regattas. In 2009 we defended our title
in the hotly contested Women's Eights at Peterborough Sprint Regatta, had four crews qualify for Henley Women's
Regatta - with two making the final and at the National Championships of Great Britain both the crews we entered won medals
(Gold and Bronze). We usually have between 4 and 6 boats entered in the Women’s Head of the River Race. We aim to provide opportunities for women of all levels to race and succeed. Senior rowing is divided
into 3 tiers based principally on commitment. We also have a Veteran’s/Recreational Squad composed of experienced
rowers who just love to row and race, and want the freedom to schedule it in around their busy lives. Women of any level
of experience are welcome to join whichever group suits their goals and commitment level.
Men's Squad
The Men's Captain for the rest of the 2009/10 season is
Florian Combe
The 2010 season is well underway having
started with a training session in September at the OUBC Rowing Tank on Iffley Road which provided an opportunity
for new squad members to meet the coaches and current members.
We operate 2 tiers of squad rowing at CORC that are based on levels of commitment, not necessarily ability
(or age). If you are a very keen novice/beginner and are willing to devote Monday to Thursday evenings (6.30pm – 9pm)
and Saturday and Sunday mornings (7am – 12pm) to training, then the Tier 1 programme is for you. For those more experienced
oarsmen, you will fit in with our current squad members and help us achieve our aims of developing a formidable squad competing
at the Ghent regatta, National Rowing Championships, Henley Royal, 8s Head and other top level competitions throughout the
season. The squad will join up with the Women’s squad for a week long training camp in Ghent, Belgium in May to prepare
for the summer racing season.
If you are unable to commit to the full training
programme, but would like to get out on the water and race occasionally then Tier 2 is the squad for you. This squad is run
on a far more informal basis but unfortunately is not suitable for absolute beginners. Water sessions are organised amongst
the members of Tier 2 with the aim of putting an 8 together for the 8s Head of the River and to visit some of the smaller
regattas over the summer.
CORC
is a vibrant, fun and friendly club which offers a superb place to enjoy rowing and to make great friends. If you would like
to join us for the forthcoming season then please do not hesitate to contact either Florian Combe (Men’s Captain) or Chris Thomson (Club Captain).
Junior Squad
City of Oxford Rowing Club has a thriving and successful Junior squad
– our coaches are qualified volunteers. If you are a junior with rowing experience
and would like to know more about joining our squad please contact our Junior Co-ordinator Debbie King
Veteran / Masters rowers are catered for in each of the Men's and
Women's squads. Please contact the relevant Squad Captain for further details.
